WOOLLAHRA & FIVE DOCK

Dr Anthony Mak is an acclaimed international speaker and Key Opinion Leader in the field of reconstructive, implant and aesthetic dentistry.

He is the founder of Wdental and InnerWestDental, and since the beginning of inception has instilled a philosophy and ethos of modern comprehensive dentistry that strives for perfection. And this has spread through the heart of both practices.
In 2017, together in partnership with Dr Adrian Mazzaferro, they rebuilt the new InnerWestDental, so that both practices are state of the art modern dental centres, serving the community.

Anthony’s art and passion for quality aesthetic dentistry has allowed him to publish his work in peer reviewed journals such as the Australian Dental Journal and multiple local and international dental magazines. He has also published compendiums in the field of aesthetic dentistry with composites and ceramics.

Dr Anthony Mak is a pioneer and early adopter in the field of Digital, CAD/CAM and 3D Printing in Dentistry. He is a strong advocate for minimally invasive restorative dental procedures.

Outside of clinical practice Dr Mak sits on Australian, European and American dental advisory boards of dental companies in the hope of advancing and improving the materials, tools, and techniques used for modern dentistry. He also runs lectures and workshops supporting and teaching young dentists in these fields.

Being a general dental practitioner with experience in a wide range of procedures, Dr Anthony Mak is able to harness these skills in a multi-disciplinary approach to look after each patient and their dental needs. And where specialist involvement is recommended, Dr Mak works with some of the best specialists in Sydney to ensure the patients are always under the best possible care.

An under and post-graduate of the University of Sydney Anthony is also on the executive committee of the University of Sydney, Dental Alumni and the renowned Post Graduate Diploma in Implant Dentistry (Uni of Syd) planning committee.

When not involved with dentistry, Anthony is busy with his young family trying to be the best father he can be.

Dr Adrian Mazzaferro

Dentist | BN BDent (USyd), Grad Dip Clin Dent (Oral Implants) (USyd)

WOOLLAHRA & FIVE DOCK

Dr Adrian Mazzaferro was born and raised in Sydney and is of Italian heritage. While knowing enough of the language to get by, he is currently taking night classes in Italian. This has made both his Nonnas extremely happy!

Adrian has been friends with Dr Anthony Mak since university and as partners in both W Dental & Inner West Dental, they share a vision for a group of practices that are accessible to the community yet utilise the latest in technology to offer treatment of highest standards with a no compromise approach.

In 2005, Adrian graduated with a Bachelor of Dentistry (BDent) from The University of Sydney and was awarded the Anthony P Martin Prize for Excellence in clinical Endodontics (root canal therapy). Since graduating, Adrian has worked in several busy general practices taking care of both children and adults, and is therefore confident in a wide variety of dental procedures such as general restorative work, emergency trauma, oral surgery, implants, orthodontics and high end cosmetics. Adrian enjoys all facets of dentistry but has a special interest in complex restorative procedures, Invisalign, cosmetic dental transformations, oral surgery and implants, and constantly pursues continuing education in these areas. For example, he has completed extensive further training in the field of dental implant surgery at both private and tertiary levels and is a graduate of The University of Sydney's prestigious Graduate Diploma in Oral Implants.

He believes dentistry is a unique profession because it requires a combination of medical, technical and artistic skills. It fulfils his instinct to help people, his interest in engineering and technology, and the satisfaction of working with his hands. He endeavours to really get to know his patients in order to understand what their health needs and goals are, so together they can achieve those goals.

Before studying dentistry Adrian qualified as a registered nurse, completing a Bachelor of Nursing (BN) at The University of Sydney. He calls upon his nursing experience to build rapport with children and anxious patients. He is compassionate and honest, and his obsessive attention to detail allows him to provide comprehensive treatment of the highest standard.

Adrian loves spending his spare time with his wife and young daughter and maintains an active lifestyle. His hobbies include snowboarding, travelling, motorcycles and film.

WOOLLAHRA & FIVE DOCK

Dr Caroline Chung completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Sydney in 2003. She went on to complete her Primary Examinations with the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, and gained invaluable experience over the following years at two well established private practices, one in Sydney and the other on the NSW South Coast.

Caroline then continued her studies abroad at the University of Hong Kong, and completed a Master of Dental Surgery specialising in paediatric dentistry, and an Advanced Diploma in Paediatric Dentistry in 2009. She then sat college examinations, and through this gained Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Paediatric Dentistry. Caroline also attained Membership in Specialist Dental Practice (Paediatric Dentistry) with the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.

During her time overseas, Dr Caroline Chung was given the opportunity to present patient cases and research, and has done so internationally across countries including the IADR in Canada and IAPD in Germany. Caroline also had her postgraduate research published in a well recognised dental research journal.

Dr Caroline Chung has since been practicing as a registered specialist paediatric dentist in private practice in both Brisbane and Sydney. She is passionate about managing the oral health of children, and as a paediatric dental specialist, routinely treats children with anxiety and special needs. She also has a special interest in managing developmental defects in teeth, or “chalky” teeth, early childhood caries, oral surgery, and dental trauma.

Having experience with severe and multiple allergies on a more personal level, Dr Caroline Chung is also very allergy aware, with both the materials used, and any medications prescribed.

Born and bred in Sydney, Caroline now has two girls of her own to keep her grounded. Having spent her high school years in the inner west, Caroline is delighted to be able to service the local community she is so familiar with.

Dr Caroline Chung works closely with both her dental colleagues and other specialists, and has always strived to treat children with a long term, multidisciplinary approach in mind. Caroline feels strongly about supporting the local area, and has visited the nearby daycares and preschools to provide both oral health awareness directly to children, and information nights for parents.

Kath Sutherland

Dental Hygienist

WOOLLAHRA

Kath decided to pursue a career in dental hygiene in her native home of New Zealand a number of years ago due to a deep interest in dentistry that was fostered by her father, who himself was a dentist. She chose to continue this journey in Australia after moving here over 20 years ago.

She continues to keep abreast of the latest evidence based research and techniques and is excited by the advancements in the profession which have improved our understanding of the direct links between oral health and our general medical health.

Kath is passionate about educating her patients that optimal dental hygiene requires more than just showing up for a check-up and clean every six months and always takes the time to explain and demonstrate the lifestyle changes that are required.

Kath has been with the team for over 10 years and like most Kiwi’s, she loves her rugby and cricket!
